Moonlight Visitor

"Hello?" Smash answered.

"Hello, Smash. It's Terrence." The voice of Gizmo's father sounded from the other line. "I just received a call from Micheal and Lina's parents. They're worried about them, since they were supposed to be leaving tomorrow, and they haven't called since they came here. Could you tell them for me?"

Smash's eyebrows rose as high as they could. "Oh yeah, sure."

"Thank you. Sorry for leaving so suddenly, though. I had some things to do back home. I'll be back shortly."

"Don't worry about it." Smash said. "See you later." He hung up, and looked over towards Mike. "Mike. Lina." The two cats looked at him, curiously. "Your parents called. They're worried about you two; you haven't called them since you got here, have you?"

Both of them looked startled at first, but then looked down with guilt. "N-no...I totally forgot..." Mike mumbled.

Smash shrugged, and put his cell back into his pocket. "Give em a call, soon. Let em know you'll be staying down here a little longer."

Gizmo scratched the back of his head, "So...their parents called you?" He asked, confused.

"No, Of course not! That was your dad who called me. Their parents called him." He explained. He looked around at everyone else. "Anyway...I believe we all deserve some rest."

Mike stared at her for a bit. He felt a few mixed emotions himself. "A-alright...I'll be inside..if you need me." He said, somewhat disappointed. He and Lina walked back inside, leaving her alone. He was still frustrated that he wasn't chosen to fight, and now Diana wanted to be alone. Now he wasn't sure what to do.

Later, while most people were getting ready for bed, Mike and Lina sat on a couple of stools in the kitchen, as they dialed the number of their home.
"Hello?" A woman's voice answered on speaker phone.
"Hi, mom. It's us." Mike said.
"Micheal? Lina? Thank goodness, I was worried about you two!" Their mother was overcome with relief. "How are you two?"
"We're fine." Mike answered. "We just kinda got caught up in things down here."
"Yeah, it's just been so long, there's been a lot to catch up on." Lina added. "Could we stay down here a little longer, Mother?"
"I...suppose so. As long as it's no trouble for Mr. Terrence and Ms. Anna." She said.
"Don't worry, we asked already." Mike said. "They're fine with it."
"That's good. Well, how have you been enjoying your trip so far? How's Gizmo and his family doing?"

The two talked with their mother for a little while longer, though they didn't mention a word about what was really going on...

After the call, Mike hung the phone back up on the wall and looked back at Lina. "Well..I guess that's that." He said.

Lina frowned at him. "Are you okay? You've been looking kinda down for a while.."

Mike shook his head. "It's nothing to worry about. I just..really wanted to do something more in the big battle." He said with a heavy sigh. "I mean, if I can't fight, then what was all that training even for?"

Lina wasn't really sure how to answer that. "I..I don't really know, actually..."

"Mike." The two turned around to see Gizmo standing in the doorway. He walked towards them both, giving them both a serious look. "I don't know if you'll understand this at first, but I believe your training wasn't meant for you to be out on the battlefield." He said.

"What do you mean?" Mike asked, wearing an equally serious expression.

"We didn't have the time to train you to be completely effective against them." Gizmo explained. "And, Diana needs someone to be there for her." He glanced out the window, seeing Percy and Diana hugging by the stream. "She's going through a lot of pain. It's not going to help her much when her brother leaves her side, at least for the time being. But if the both of you are gone, she'll be alone." He looked back at him. "She really cares about both of you. She needs one of you two to stay with her. And..If one of us should fail in holding back one of the enemies, She needs someone who knows how to fight to protect her."

Mike stopped to think about it. He did have a point. When he saw how Diana was right now, he felt awful. "I..guess you're right.." He said, quietly.

"Don't worry, Mike." Gizmo patted his shoulder. "If my intuition serves me well, You'll end up doing a whole lot more than anyone else. You'll see."

"Maybe.." Mike watched as Diana learned how to use her healing powers, and smiled a little. "Yeah. I guess I should keep positive, shouldn't I?"

"Yep." Lina said. "For her sake, as well as everyone else's."

Mike nodded. "Then..I'll do my best." He said.

"That's the spirit." Gizmo grinned. "Let's go upstairs and get ready for bed. We'll need lots of rest for tomorrow!" He and Lina then walked out of the room. Mike gave one last glance out the window before following.

'No matter what happens, I'll be there by your side until the end...Diana.'


A bit later, Smash walked out into the back yard, seeing Percy and Diana heading over. "Oh, back already?" He asked.

The three were already in their pajamas now. "We just wanted to come and say goodnight." Lina said to them.

"Oh, wait. We were actually gonna talk a little more before turning in." Smash said. "I think you should join us first."

"Sure." Mike agreed, sounding a little more cheerful than before. He glanced at Diana, flashing her a quick smile before looking back at Smash. "What about, though?"

"Just some preparations for tomorrow." Smash said. "Let's head into the living room."
