Character Redesigns

The thing about Kirbia is, she doesn't really have any defining traits. I mean, at least not right now. Her whole character is undergoing maintenance, so any defining traits she might have had then aren't really valid at this point.

Well, yeah, that was actually another problem she had. She was pretty dang boring and irrelevant.


Which I guess kind of shows when the best name you could think of was "Kirbia."

I wouldn't say she was necessarily irrelevant, but she didn't really have much in her character.

And as it stands now, I can't really just give her any defining features on a whim. All I can do is try and redevelop her new character and see where that leads her. Until then, I'm sticking with the name Kieara.

She always did seem like a flat character to me. But at least you're trying to fix her up.



I think Kieara is a nice name. I just feel like it should be pronounced Key-Air-Uh.

Another bump for more design updates. I posted this on SFW so you can read it there too if you want.

Well, our series has been a long one. Though I don't have many things to add/added to it yet, I'm moving onto Season 4, which takes place roughly around the year 2012. (Although I never specify what the year is in-story.)
My point is, the characters are growing up. Though it's 2013 right now, which means they're actually older now than they are there. Anyway, Lemme bring up the first order of business.
I'm aiming for a few design updates on some of them. Specifically, Gizmo, Violet, Zap, and maybe Crystal. As I said, they're all growing up. I'm still treating them (sprite/design-wise) like they're as old as they were back in SpTH, which took place in 2010.

• Gizmo was 15 there, and now he's 18. An adult. I don't really know how to go about updating his design other than making him a tad taller and giving him a different outfit. I considered giving him hair like his dad, but eehh, I dunno. If he ever makes an appearance where he'd have a voice (i.e a game like SpTH) at this age, I would use KH2 Sora's voice for him. It'd only be natural, as he'd been using KH1's version up to this point.
  
• Violet was 15 as well. Though I have a better idea of how to go about updating her design. She could probably pass as an 18 year old the way she is now, but for some time I've been considering giving her hair. Actual hair, and not just a few tufts on the front of her forehead. If done right, I think it'd be rather pretty. Of course, then there's the explanation of why she didn't have hair before. She probably kept it short everywhere else but her forehead bangs, in order to keep a simplistic hairstyle. Now she wants to let it grow out. A shoddy excuse I know.
  
• Zap needs the most attention, as according to my sprites he's still somewhere around 9-11 years old when he's 14 now. That's the age Gizmo originally started as when he was first created. Zap is probably going to have the biggest change out of all four of these guys.
  
• Crystal looks older than Zap for sure. I don't know if she needs too much else done to her for that matter. She could pass as 14 the way she looks now, I think. If anything I'd just give her some new duds and call it a day.
  

That's about it, really. Also, I guess while I still have the topic of design updates, there's still the matter with Kyle. Even if he has the shortest quills on Mobius, he's still going to look like Sonic if I don't give him something fresh. I tried different quill styles, but I couldn't find any that really fit him. The fact that his current look grew on me overtime isn't helping, either. My last idea is to give him hair. It should be short, slick and smooth. While it'd be a bit jarring to have him suddenly have hair, it wouldn't be totally out there considering Keela has hair. And remember, they're twins. I wonder if I should give Darkyle hair? Probably not.
I think Electric might bother some people too. I gave him long and thick quills, and now I shortened the amount down to 3. He still looks Sonic-y. Meh. >.>

There are other characters I could have updated like this, but decided against due to them either being fine as is or already having updates fairly recently. (i.e Amber, Mike and Lina.) And then there are characters like Smash who honestly don't need anything else. (He's already got an entire wardrobe of alternate outfits, for one.)
That's probably it for now. So lemme show some concepts via dollmaker. There will be some inconsistencies with the current designs, (most notably colors) just to warn you.



Here's Gizmo. He has a belt with pouches to carry all his small gadgets, while the spiked knuckles are in place of the Claw Gloves.

I left a few details out in his sprite form. I didn't want to change him too much from his original design, (as he's just growing, not becoming an entirely new character.) but I think this works well for him.



Older Violet. She didn't change much aside from the aforementioned hairdo, but she has new shoes now. I'm personally proud of how this came out.



He looks way older now, doesn't he? I decided to give him hair, because if I didn't he would end up with the exact same problem as Kyle in the future.



Alternate Crystal concept. There really weren't many great choices to pick for her new outfit, but I think I can work off of this.



So yeah, that's what I've been doing recently. Anyone got any comments/suggestions before I start making these official?

For the most part, yeah. The final versions of Crystal and Zap came out a bit differently than the original concepts here. Violet is pretty much spot on, but Gizmo's update is iffy and hasn't been confirmed. I'm thinking of trying again with him.
