Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a 3D Sonic fangame, that runs on an engine related to Doom. It's quite a fun game, and you can download it here.
What makes it even more fun is the fact that 1: You can play online with other people. and 2: Purely customizable content. If you know how, you can make your own stages, characters, and heck, even modify the entire game to your own new adventure!
It's whole setting takes a big part in my roleplay series. I've merged all the places into my continuity. It's rather interesting in hindsight, because my first RP's with my brothers actually took place in SRB2 netgames...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, I'm currently working on 3 projects for this game. Or rather, 3 characters. (6 if you count 1's alternate outfits.) So far, it's Smash, Violet and Gizmo.
Now, my first project was Violet. I started on her several years ago, long before they released the final demo of the game. Violet was a simple character, who was edited from (probably) the oldest version of Amy out there. She had modern Amy's outfit (with an extra stripe near the bottom) with classic Amy's spikes out.
Now, Violet had many problems later on. I had stopped working on her for a long time, shortly after I added her swimming ability. Once version 2.0 came out, I had to convert her to the new version just so I could play as her again. But something went horribly wrong. I don't know when but the file had gotten corrupt, so I had to take her sprites and move her to a new wad. Since the old Amy character wasn't ported to the new version, I had to use a different character for a base, though I could still use the sprites from her. I tried Knuckles at first, but that didn't work out. Then I ended up getting Rosy The Rascal, whom it was made by I don't remember, but I used her as a base next. And that's where she is now. But even now, there's a problem: Rosy had a custom ability, rather than one of the main 7 available to custom characters. When I removed that, it screwed up the way she used the Whirlwind Shield, also known as the Jump shield. So I have to find another base wad for her, soon.
Not only that, but her sprites weren't very good at the time. It's hard to sprite someone with neon purple fur, y'know? I'm used to it with GBA sprites, but these are something different. They're bigger and I have to mind the SRB2 styled shading. (which I'm not good at. .__.; ) So I had to go back and fix the sprites of her that were already down.
Here's a pic for comparison.
Note, the green is there because of palette issues. Basically so that you can change color in-game, but it defaults to red. (or Blue, for Violet.) The palette settings were changed for current Violet, so she doesn't have any green on her.
Aside from all of that, Violet is a good character. She's fun to play as, especially in water levels. (
because swimming is underrated.) I'll be really happy once I finish her. And I even found a fitting voice for her, so I'll be adding that to
Splice The Hedgehog as well.
Then, there's Smash. Smash was a character who I started sometime after Violet, but never got past overall playability. Until I was able to make wads for the newest version of SRB2, I barely even considered working on him because I couldn't get it together. I ended up starting over by the time I ported Violet over to the new version. Right now, Smash is the easiest to look at, because he doesn't switch colors or anything due to unfinished sprites. However, he only has his older/oldest design in-game for that very reason. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna do his hair, so until then his sprites will remain the same, making him look like a blue knuckles.
All I've managed to do for his sprites so far, were add everything else but the hair to his front sprites. The shoes, wristbands, eyes, height, etc. Other than that, he's the same.
Smash is also pretty fun to play as. My only real dilemma besides his sprites, are his abilities. Now, there was this custom released version of SRB2 that gave more possibilities to custom made content, which let me give him a running jump ability. But outside of that version, Smash doesn't have any abilities other than the basic spin dash. (which would prove to be more of a hindrance if he
didn't have it.) I'm thinking wall jumps, which I've seen to be a possible custom ability. But I don't know how to make them...
And finally, there's Gizmo. Unlike the other two, I started Gizmo in around November. I started 3 different skins of him: One is normal, the other has his casual clothes, and the third is MegaGizmo. Though at the moment, Casual Gizmo is the only one who's getting worked on.
Now, there's a really big problem with Gizmo. The thing is, he's being made from re-sized and re-shaded GBA styled sprites, as opposed to sprites made from scratch. This causes some big problems in terms of just looking right. Take a look of this unfinished sprite next to Violet.
Though I (somewhat) fixed the problem with the shading on his head, There are so many things to name about how wrong this is. But I don't know how to get it to look quite right. I might have to do it all from scratch one day, but for now I think I should just go about how I originally planned to, so I can
at least get a base down to work with.
In anycase, The abilities for the three. I don't know which ones I'll be keeping, but regular Gizmo currently has a double jump. Casual Gizmo uses (or rather, WILL use) the Magic Wings to fly, and MegaGizmo...I don't know. He's supposed to be able to slide, but I'm not quite sure if I can do that. I'd also like for him to be able to shoot, but again, don't know how.
There are also characters I plan to make soon. Splice, Speedy(someone who needs reviving, like Violet and Smash.), and possibly Pearl.
I think I'd have much better luck making some of them than I have been with the others. (though in the end, Violet will probably be the only one to end up completely like how I wanted her to be.)
