The Battle Of Kaoru! ((The Chapter Version))

Don't worry, I just didn't have the time to continue yet. Anyhow...

Smash and Kyle both glanced over at Yami and Kikyo, almost startled that it was finally time. At last, the battle was seeing it's conclusion.
"You got this, Yami." Smash encouraged, giving her a thumbs up.
Kyle simply nodded at her, though he felt somewhat uneasy about the whole plan. Perhaps it was the tone in Kikyo's voice and how she openly admitted that she wouldn't hesitate to shoot anyone in her way.

Frost, Icicle and Pearl watched from the side-lines as Yami approached Kaoru with the small box. "This is it..." Pearl said softly.
"What's gonna happen?" Icicle asked, not really knowing what the plan was.
"They're going to free Taelor."

Kaoru turned her head slightly, careful not to cut her neck on Yumi and Sesshomaru's swords, and stared at the box in Yami's hands as the half demon slowly walked towards her. A few paces back, Smash and Pearl were following her for support. Kaoru began to laugh maniacly, forcing her head back as she did so despite her situation.

The laugh sent shivers through everyone's spines. Was she just going crazy because she knows she's been defeated, or was this exactly what she wanted?..

"Ahh so you've done your homework, haven't you Inuyami? No doubt that wench zombie told you what would happen if you gave me my soul back. But you're still willing to do it? Are you this desperate?!" Kaoru began to madly cackle again.

Yami paused and shook a little, her fears getting the best of her again. 'She's right..What if Taelor doesn't make it...What if this just makes things worse?..' With her head held low, she was beginning to doubt their efforts to bring Taelor back.

Out of reaction, Sesshomaru kicked Kaoru in the side to silence her. "Yami!" he called sternly.

Yami's head shot up, startled from his sudden, strong outburst.

"Finish it!" he yelled, trying to encourage her.

Yami closed her eyes tightly, and cancelled all of her doubting thoughts in an instant. 'There's no time for this! I can't let that witch get to me..I believe in Taelor's strength!' She opened her eyes and stared down at Kaoru with determination as she held her hand on the seal.

"Too slow!!" With all the strength she had left, Kaoru bounced the swords off of her with a small barrier, and disappeared into the night sky.

Nobody had time to react after Kaoru escaped. Everyone was too fixated on Yami to watch her.

"Crap!" Smash exclaimed, almost leaping back in surprise. He and Kyle immediately scanned the area, hearts beating rapidly. "Where is she!?"
"Yami, Watch yourself!" Kyle warned, beginning to step closer to her as he kept his sword at the ready. Sesshomaru's eyes darted all over the place. His face was showing signs of restraint against his nearly uncontainable rage and worry that Kaoru escaped from his clutches. The last thing he wanted was for her to get her soul back when they weren't ready.
Frost, knowing something terrible was about to happen, rushed back into the battlefield. He couldn't see Kaoru, but the least he could do was be there for when she reappeared.

Kaoru had to think fast. That was the last bit of energy she had left, and if she didn't think of a way to make sure she could get her soul without a fight, then she'd lose. 'Hmm..' She stared down at the others, hidden in the darkness of the night sky.

She was at a loss for a moment, until she noticed that weak little pink creature holding Yami's toddler. A wicked smile appeared across her cold, evil face as a thought ran through her mind. Smash was in front of them, protecting them from the front as he searched wildly in the sky..but there was no one protecting them from behind.

'This is going to be easier than I thought!' She began to descend from the air, trying to stay out of everyone's detection as the made her way to her soon to be hostages.

Frost suddenly saw something from the corner of his eye. "Pearl!! Look o-" It was too late. Kaoru grabbed Pearl from behind and held her sword against Kaomi's little neck.

The moment Smash heard him yell her name, he felt his heart freeze over. He whirled and stumbled around to try and make it to his sister in time, but by the time she entered his vision, it was already too late. "P-Pearl..!"

Pearl felt Kaoru's cold hand on her shoulder and felt her body stiffen in absolute terror when she saw the blade at the neck of the little girl she was meant to protect. She instinctively pulled Kaomi closer to her, but felt Kaoru's grip tighten.

"Don't move a hair." She threatened, speaking to everyone who reacted.

"Let her go!" Frost furiously demanded.

"And why should I?" The demonic woman sneered. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't cut them down right now?"

Smash gritted his teeth, feeling his clenched fists quiver. There was no reasoning with this woman. The only thing she wanted was her soul, and they couldn't afford to let her have it when they weren't ready. And she would probably kill them both anyway, whether she got her prize or not.
He was careless. Had he not left her unguarded, Pearl wouldn't be in this situation. He tried to think of a way out of this situation but he was drawing up a blank.
